The Chan's Peking story started in 1985, when one of the Chan brothers opened the first location in Fishkill. The concept caught on quickly — a few years later, a second location opened in Beacon. In 1991, the third of four brothers opened Chan's Peking Kitchen III in Poughkeepsie, at 48 Raymond Avenue.
The success of Chan's Peking inspired other family members to open their own locations over the years. One by one, as the other owners retired, those doors closed. Chan's Peking Kitchen III never did.
In 2013, a fire forced a relocation — a few blocks down Raymond Avenue to 26 Raymond, where the restaurant stands today. It was a setback, but it didn't slow them down. The eldest son, who had already stepped in to manage day-to-day operations, used the move as an opportunity to rebrand — dropping "Kitchen III" and simplifying the name to Chan's Peking, the name the restaurant carries today.
For the past five years, Chan's Peking has been nominated for Hudson Valley's Best Chinese Cuisine — and has won four of them. Customers drive in from across the Hudson Valley — and most say Chan's Peking maintains the high level of great tasting food they have grown accustomed to for decades.
